Plotinus

Plotinus was a very wise person who lived a super long time ago, almost 1,800 years back! He wasn't just smart, he was a philosopher. That means he loved to think deeply about life, the universe, and everything.

He wondered about where we all came from and what makes us, us. He thought about a special, perfect 'One' that is the source of everything good and beautiful in the world. It’s like the ultimate source of all the best toys or the most delicious cookies!

Plotinus was born in Egypt, which was part of the Roman Empire back then. He traveled to Rome and started teaching his amazing ideas to other people. He had lots of students who loved listening to him.

One of his students, named Porphyry, wrote down all of Plotinus's thoughts and teachings after he was gone. These writings are like a treasure chest of his ideas that we can still read today. It’s thanks to Porphyry that we know so much about what Plotinus believed.

Plotinus taught that everything in the world comes from a single, perfect source called 'The One'. Think of it like a giant, amazing light bulb that shines and creates everything else. He also talked about 'The Soul', which is like our inner self, and how it can try to get closer to The One.

He believed that by thinking good thoughts and being kind, we can become more like The One. His ideas have inspired lots of people for many, many years, making them think about the world in new ways.

Plotinus believed that there are levels of existence, kind of like steps on a staircase. At the very top is The One, which is perfect and beyond anything we can imagine. Then comes 'Intellect', which is like pure thought, and then 'Soul', which is what makes us alive and thinking.

He thought we could reach a special state of happiness by connecting with The One through deep thinking and meditation. It’s like trying to feel a warm hug from the universe itself!
