Where is Patras?

Patras is a super cool city in Greece, a country famous for its ancient history and yummy food! It's like the third biggest city there, which means it's pretty busy. Patras sits right by the sea, on a big bay called the Gulf of Patras.

It's also near a mountain called Mount Panachaikon, so it has beautiful views of both water and hills. The weather is usually sunny and warm, perfect for playing outside!

A Super Old City!

Patras is SO old, its story started about 4,000 years ago! That's way, way before your grandparents were even born! For a long time, it was a very important place where people from all over the eastern Mediterranean sea would meet and trade. It's also known as the place where a very important person named Saint Andrew was martyred, which is a big part of its history for many people.

Fun Festivals and Busy Boats!

Patras is called the 'Gate to the West' because it has a huge port where lots of ships come and go, connecting Greece to Italy and other countries in Europe. But the most exciting thing happens every year in February: the Patras Carnival! It's one of the biggest parties in Europe, with giant, funny floats and amazing parades that hundreds of thousands of people come to see.

It's a city that loves to celebrate!

Learning and Growing!

Patras is also a great place for learning! It has three universities, which means lots of students come to live and study there. This makes it a really smart city, especially for learning about technology. There's even a super long bridge, the Rio-Antirrio Bridge, that connects Patras to another part of Greece, making it easy to travel around. It's a city that's always moving and learning!
