Key Facts
Meet the First Explorers!
Paleo-Indians were some of the very first people to live in North America. They lived a super long time ago, even before the pyramids were built in Egypt! These brave people were like explorers, traveling to new lands when much of the world was covered in ice.
They were amazing hunters and gatherers, learning to survive in a wild and exciting environment. Think of them as the original adventurers of a brand new continent!
What Did They Eat?
These early people were skilled hunters. They hunted big animals like mammoths, which were like fuzzy elephants, and giant bison. They also gathered plants, berries, and nuts. They used sharp stone tools, like spears, to catch their food. It was a tough life, but they were very good at finding what they needed to eat. They had to be clever to catch such big animals!
Where Did They Live?
Paleo-Indians lived all over North America, from snowy northern lands to warmer southern places. They didn't have houses like we do. They often lived in caves or made temporary shelters out of animal skins and branches. They moved around a lot, following the animals they hunted and looking for good places to find food and water. Their homes were wherever they could find safety and resources.
Why They're Super Important!
Paleo-Indians are important because they were the ancestors of all Native Americans. They were the first humans to explore and settle in a huge part of the world. By studying their tools and where they lived, we learn so much about how people lived long, long ago. They show us how strong and smart humans can be, even in challenging times. They are the beginning of a long and amazing story!
