Rome's First Neighborhood!

Palatine Hill is like the oldest neighborhood in the whole city of Rome! It's right in the middle of the famous seven hills of Rome. This hill is so special that people call it the 'first nucleus of the Roman Empire.' That means it was one of the very first places where the Roman Empire really started to grow and become powerful. It’s like the starting point for a giant adventure!

Homes for the Rich and Famous!

Long, long ago, before there were even palaces, rich and important people lived on Palatine Hill. They had big houses with beautiful gardens. Later, emperors, who were like kings, started building their homes there too. The most famous emperor, Augustus, built his palace on this hill. It was like building the fanciest house on the block!

A Giant Museum on a Hill!

Today, Palatine Hill is like a giant outdoor museum! You can walk around and see the old ruins of palaces and houses. There’s also a special museum called the Palatine Museum. Inside, you can see cool things that were dug up from the hill and other old places in Italy. It’s like a treasure chest filled with history!

Two Tops and a Dip!

Did you know Palatine Hill used to have two tops? One part was called Palatium, and the other was called Germalus. They were separated by a little dip, like a small valley. Imagine a playground with two slides and a sandy area in between! This special hill has seen so much history unfold right on its slopes.
