Meet the Giant Rock!

Imagine a huge, round rock called Moro Rock! It's in a big park in California called Sequoia National Park. This rock is made of granite, which is super strong.

It sits right in the middle of the park, like a giant's playground. It's so big, it's like a mountain made of just one rock! The weather here can be sunny and warm, but sometimes it's snowy and stormy, so you have to be careful when you visit.

A Stairway to the Sky!

Want to get to the very top of Moro Rock? Good news! Someone built a special stairway just for you.

It has lots of steps, and it's carved right into the rock or made with concrete. It was built a long, long time ago, in 1931. When you climb all the way up, you can see for miles and miles!

You can see other mountains and forests, like looking out of an airplane window, but you're still on the ground!

What's in a Name?

Why is it called Moro Rock? It's a funny story! A long time ago, in the 1860s, there was a man who owned a horse. This horse was a special color, kind of bluish-gray, and the Mexicans called that color 'moro'. The man's name was Mr. Swanson, and he lived nearby. So, the rock was named after his cool-colored horse! It's like naming your pet after something you really like.

See Far, Far Away!

The view from the top of Moro Rock is super amazing! You can see so much of Sequoia National Park. It's like having a giant map spread out below you.

You can see other tall mountains, like the Great Western Divide, and all the green trees. It's a perfect spot to take a picture and remember your adventure. But remember, if there's thunder or snow, it's not safe to climb, so always listen to the grown-ups!
