Moon Jae-in

Moon Jae-in was a very important person in South Korea! He was their president from 2017 to 2022. Before that, he was a lawyer who helped people who needed it. He even went to jail for standing up for what he believed was right! He was born a long time ago, in 1953, and grew up in a city called Busan. He loved to learn and studied hard in school.

Moon Jae-in didn't always want to be president. First, he was a lawyer who worked with a friend named Roh Moo-hyun. They helped people who were treated unfairly. Later, he helped his friend Roh Moo-hyun become president! Then, Moon Jae-in decided he wanted to lead the country himself. He ran for president and won! It was a big change from being a lawyer.

One super cool thing President Moon did was meet with the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un! They met three times to talk about peace. Imagine meeting someone from a different country to try and be friends. He even met with the president of the United States, Donald Trump, right near the border between the two Koreas. This showed he wanted peace for everyone.

As president, Moon Jae-in wanted to make things better for the people. He wanted to make sure everyone got paid fairly, so he raised the lowest amount of money people could earn. He also made sure people didn't have to work too many hours in a week. When a big sickness called COVID-19 came, he helped South Korea stay safe. People around the world thought he did a good job!
