Ireland's Royal Story!

Ireland has a super old story about kings and queens! For a very long time, there were Irish kings who ruled different parts of the island. Then, people from England came and things started to change. They brought their own kings and queens who became important in Ireland too. It's like a long, exciting adventure with royal families!

When Kings and Queens Ruled

A long time ago, Ireland had a 'High King' who was like the boss of all the other kings. But then, invaders came and took over some land. Later, a king named Henry VIII became the King of Ireland too! This meant the English king was also the Irish king. It was like having one person wear two crowns!

A Big Change for Ireland

For many years, Ireland was ruled by the same king or queen as England and Scotland. They all became one big country called the United Kingdom. But then, most of Ireland decided it wanted to be its own country, called the Irish Free State. This meant they didn't have a king or queen anymore!

Northern Ireland's Crown

Today, most of the island of Ireland is its own country and doesn't have a king or queen. But, a part called Northern Ireland is still part of the United Kingdom. So, the king or queen of the United Kingdom is still the ruler for people in Northern Ireland. It's like two different stories happening on the same island!
