Imagine a place called Michoacán, which means 'place of the fishermen' because lots of people used to fish in a big lake called Lake Pátzcuaro. This amazing place is in western Mexico and even has a long sandy edge touching the big Pacific Ocean! It's like Mexico's backyard, with neighbors like Jalisco and Guanajuato.

A Land of Kings and Heroes!
Long, long ago, before cars or even bicycles, a super strong group called the Purépecha Empire lived here. They were so powerful they even challenged the famous Aztec Empire! Later, brave people fought for Mexico's freedom, and one of them, José María Morelos, was born in Michoacán's capital city, Morelia. The city is named after him! It's like a land where ancient kings and modern heroes walked.
Butterflies and Volcanoes!
