A Week of Big Changes!

Once upon a time, in a place called Buenos Aires, a super important event happened called the May Revolution. It lasted for a whole week, from May 18th to May 25th, in the year 1810! Think of it like a big, exciting change happening in a city, but it took seven whole days.

This revolution was all about who got to be in charge of the government. It was a time when people decided they wanted to make their own rules instead of having someone far away tell them what to do.

Who Was in Charge?

Before the May Revolution, a man named Viceroy Baltasar Hidalgo de Cisneros was the boss. But then, some clever people in Buenos Aires decided it was time for a change. They gathered together for a special meeting, like a big town hall, to talk about the future.

They wanted to create their own local government, which they called the Primera Junta, or the First Junta. This new group would make decisions for their land, which was a part of a big Spanish colony.

Why Did It Happen?

A big reason for this revolution was happening far away in Spain! A powerful leader named Napoleon invaded Spain and changed who was king. This made people in the Spanish colonies, like Buenos Aires, worry about what would happen to them.

When news arrived that the Spanish government was in trouble, the people in Buenos Aires saw their chance to take control. They didn't want to be told what to do by a government that was falling apart.

A New Beginning!

On May 25th, 1810, the new government, the Primera Junta, was officially formed. This was a super big deal because it was the start of them making their own decisions. Even though they were still technically part of a Spanish kingdom, they were now governing themselves.

This event was like the first step on a long road to becoming their own independent country. It was the beginning of a new chapter for the land that is now Argentina and other places too!
