Mariana Islands

The Mariana Islands are like a string of pearls in the giant Pacific Ocean! They are far away, south of Japan and east of the Philippines. These islands are actually the tops of mountains that are mostly sleeping volcanoes, poking out of the water. It's a beautiful place with warm weather, perfect for exploring!

A super long time ago, brave explorers sailed across the ocean to find these islands. They might have made the longest boat trip ever! They found fruits that helped them stay healthy. These first people are called the Chamorro people, and they have lived here for many, many years, sharing their stories and traditions.

These islands are special because they are made of volcanoes! Most of them are sleeping, but they made the land. The ocean around them is super deep, and it's full of amazing sea creatures. It's a place where land meets a vast, mysterious ocean, making it a unique spot on Earth.

Today, some of these islands are part of the United States. There are two main parts: the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and the island of Guam. People live and work here, and they have their own governments and schools, just like in other parts of the world.
