Licancabur

Licancabur is a super tall volcano that stands right on the border between two countries, Bolivia and Chile! It's so high, it reaches 5,916 meters, which is like stacking 10 Eiffel Towers on top of each other! Even though it's a volcano, it's not erupting right now.

It's covered in rocky slopes and has a big, round crater at the very top. It’s a very dry place, so there are no snow caps like you might see on other tall mountains. It’s a truly magnificent sight in the Andes mountains!

Guess what’s hiding in the crater at the very top of Licancabur? A lake! This isn't just any lake; it’s one of the highest lakes in the whole world.

It’s like having a swimming pool on the roof of a skyscraper! The water is super clear and cold. Because the air is so thin and dry up there, there are no icy glaciers, just this amazing, high-altitude lake.

It’s a special place that few people ever get to see.

Even though Licancabur looks like a rocky, empty place, lots of plants and animals call it home! Little creatures and tough plants have found ways to live on its slopes. Long, long ago, people called the Inca and Atacama people also visited this mountain.
