Islands Galore!

Ålesund is a super cool town in Norway that's built on lots of islands! It's like a puzzle made of land and sea. The main parts of the town are on islands called Hessa, Aspøya, and Nørve. Some newer parts even spread out to other islands. It's a place where boats are a big part of life, zipping between the islands and the mainland.

A City Reborn!

A long time ago, a giant fire burned down most of Ålesund. But the people there were super strong and rebuilt their town really fast! Most of the buildings you see today were built between 1904 and 1907. They all have a special, fancy style called Art Nouveau, which means they have beautiful curves and decorations, like a fancy cake!

Tiny London's Secret Mission!

During a tough time when Germany occupied Norway, people in Ålesund were very brave. They did secret work to help their country, which earned them the nickname 'Little London'! They helped people escape to Scotland and England. It shows how even a small town can have a big impact.

What Do People Do?

Ålesund is a busy place! Many people work for the Norwegian Coastal Administration, which helps ships travel safely along the coast. It's also a place where people learn and work in different jobs. It's the ninth biggest town in Norway, so there are lots of people and things happening there!
