Kamala Devi Harris was born on October 20, 1964, in Oakland, California. Her upbringing, influenced by her parents' diverse backgrounds from Jamaica and India, fostered a deep commitment to civil rights and social justice. After earning her undergraduate degree from Howard University, a distinguished Historically Black College and University (HBCU), she pursued her legal education at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.

Her early legal career was spent as a prosecutor in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, where she gained extensive courtroom experience. She later transitioned to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and subsequently served as the City Attorney of San Francisco, honing her skills in complex legal matters and public advocacy.
