Kahiltna Glacier

Kahiltna Glacier is like a giant, frozen river in a place called Alaska. It's the longest glacier in the Alaska Range, which is a big line of mountains. This ice river is super, super long, about as long as 710 football fields put end-to-end!

It starts high up on a mountain called Denali and flows down between two other tall mountains, Mount Foraker and Mount Hunter. It's a very cold and icy place, perfect for a giant ice river!

Long, long ago, explorers came to this icy land. In 1902, a brave explorer named Lt. J.S. Herron saw the glacier and wrote down its name as 'Car-ilt-nu Glacier'. It's amazing how names can travel through time! People also called it Kagheltnu Li'a. These names tell us that people have been exploring and living near this incredible ice river for a very long time, even before cars were invented!

Kahiltna Glacier is a very special place because it's so big and made of ice. It's part of the Alaska Range, which means there are lots of tall mountains all around. The weather there is very cold, just right for keeping all that ice frozen. Think of it like a giant freezer for the mountains!
