Jupiter's South Pole

Jupiter is a HUGE planet, way bigger than Earth! Its South Pole is a super special place. For a long time, we couldn't see it very well. But then, a spaceship called Juno zoomed in close! It found six giant storms, like hurricanes, spinning around the very bottom. These storms are so big, they're wider than the whole United States! They spin super fast, with winds faster than a race car.

These giant storms at Jupiter's South Pole are like a big, swirling dance. For years, they stayed in almost the same pattern. But guess what? In 2019, a brand new storm popped up! It was like a new dancer joining the party. This new storm grew so fast it pushed another storm out of the way. Now, the storms at the pole are arranged in a new shape, like a hexagon.

Before the Juno spaceship, scientists only had blurry pictures of Jupiter's poles. It was like trying to see a tiny ant from across a football field! They knew there were some glowing spots at the poles, like cosmic lighthouses, but they couldn't see the storms. Juno's amazing cameras finally showed us the incredible weather happening way down south on Jupiter.

Jupiter's South Pole isn't just about storms. It's also where its giant magnetic field points south! Think of a giant magnet inside Jupiter. The South Pole is where one end of that magnet is. This magnetic field is super important because it protects Jupiter from dangerous space stuff, kind of like a shield.
