Key Facts
What's Jainism All About?
Jainism is a super old religion from India that teaches people how to be really good and pure inside. Imagine wanting to be the best version of yourself, like a superhero of kindness! Jains believe that by being kind and gentle, they can become super pure and reach a special happy place called moksha. It's like cleaning your room until it sparkles, but for your soul!
The Three Superpowers of Jainism
Jainism has three main ideas, like superpowers, to help you become pure. First is 'correct faith,' which means believing in the good teachings. Second is 'correct knowledge,' which is learning and understanding those teachings. Third is 'correct conduct,' which means acting in a good way every day. These three things work together, like a team, to help you be your best self.
Super Gentle, Super Strong!
One of the biggest ideas in Jainism is 'ahiṃsā,' which means being super, super gentle and not hurting anyone. This means not hurting people, animals, or even tiny bugs! Jains try to be so careful that they might wear masks to not breathe in tiny creatures or sweep the ground in front of them.
They also believe in not getting too attached to things, like toys or snacks, to keep their hearts light.
Wise Guides from Long Ago
Jainism has been around for a super long time, with special teachers called Tirthankaras. The very first one lived millions of years ago, which is longer than you can even imagine! The most recent one, Mahavira, lived about 2,500 years ago. These wise guides taught people the path to being pure and kind. Today, about 4 to 5 million people around the world follow these teachings.
