Island Castles: Forts on the Water!

Island castles are built on islands, which are pieces of land completely surrounded by water. Think of them like giant sandcastles in the middle of a lake or the ocean! Sometimes they are on tiny islands, and other times they are on bigger islands. The water around them acts like a natural moat, making them hard to reach. This made them very safe places a long, long time ago.

People built castles on islands to stay safe from enemies. It was much harder for people trying to attack to cross the water. They could see anyone coming from far away! Some island castles were built for kings and queens to live in, while others were used by soldiers to protect the land. It was like having a super-secure treehouse, but much bigger and made of stone!

Many island castles are very old, built hundreds of years ago. Some are still standing today, and you can visit them! They often have tall towers where guards would watch for ships. Inside, there were big halls for feasts and small rooms for people to sleep. Imagine exploring a real castle where knights and princesses might have lived!

Even though we don't need castles for protection as much anymore, many island castles are still amazing places. They are now tourist spots where people go to learn about history and see how people lived long ago. Some are even used for special events like weddings! They remind us of exciting stories and brave people from the past.
