Meet the Royal Family Tree!

The House of Hanover was a super important royal family from Germany. Think of them like a special branch on a giant family tree! They started in a place called Hanover, which is like a big city in Germany.

For a long, long time, members of this family ruled not just Hanover, but also Great Britain and Ireland. It's like if your family suddenly became in charge of your whole town and another town far away! They were kings and queens, and their family was in charge for over 100 years!

How They Became Kings and Queens

So, how did a German family end up ruling Britain? Well, a long time ago, a king in Britain named James VI and I had a relative who was a prince in Hanover. This prince's family was called the House of Hanover.

When the British royal line ran out of heirs, they looked for the closest relative. That relative was George I, who was from the House of Hanover! He became the King of Great Britain in 1714.

It was a big change, like a new principal taking over your school from a different country!

A Queen Everyone Knows!

One of the most famous rulers from the House of Hanover was Queen Victoria. She was queen for a super long time, almost 64 years! Her reign was so long that we call it the Victorian era, and it was a time of lots of changes and inventions.

She had nine children, and her family married into other royal families all over Europe. But when Queen Victoria passed away, the crown went to her son, who was part of a different royal family, the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. So, the House of Hanover's time ruling Britain came to an end.

Why They Were a Big Deal

The House of Hanover was a big deal because they connected Germany and Britain in a really special way. For over a century, the same person was the ruler of Hanover and the King or Queen of Great Britain. This meant that decisions made in one place could affect the other.

They were also around during a time of huge changes, like new inventions and exploring new parts of the world. Their rule helped shape Britain into the country it is today, and their family tree is still important to many royal families!
