House of Burgesses

The House of Burgesses was like a very important club where grown-ups met to make decisions for the Colony of Virginia. It started way back in 1619, even before your grandparents were born! Guess what? The House of Burgesses didn't just disappear! In 1776, when Virginia decided to become its own independent place, the House of Burgesses changed its name. It became the House of Delegates. It's still around today, and it's still a place where people meet to make important decisions for Virginia!
