Who Was Hosni Mubarak?

Hosni Mubarak was a leader in Egypt for a very, very long time. He was like the captain of a big ship, guiding Egypt for almost 30 years! Before he was the leader, he was a pilot in the Egyptian Air Force, flying planes high in the sky. He became president in 1981 and stayed in charge until 2011. That's longer than most kids are old!

Flying High and Leading Egypt

Mubarak started his career as a pilot, flying in the Egyptian Air Force. He was so good that he became the commander of the whole air force! Later, he became the Vice President and then, in 1981, he became the President of Egypt. He was in charge for so long that he was Egypt's longest-serving leader in a very, very long time.

A Long Time in Charge

Being president for almost 30 years is a super long time! Mubarak was in charge for so long that he saw many changes happen in Egypt and around the world. He helped Egypt rejoin a big group called the Arab League and supported peace talks between different countries. He was president for a period when Egypt was stable, but also when some people weren't happy with how things were run.

When Things Changed

In 2011, many people in Egypt wanted to see changes. After 18 days of people gathering and asking for new leadership, Mubarak stepped down. This meant he transferred his power to other leaders. It was a big moment for Egypt. Later, he was put on trial for his role during that time. He passed away in 2020 at the age of 91.
