What Was the Gulf War?

The Gulf War was a big fight that happened a long time ago, in 1990 and 1991. It was like a giant disagreement between countries in a place called the Middle East. One country, Iraq, decided to take over a smaller neighbor called Kuwait. This made many other countries very upset, and they decided to help Kuwait get its freedom back.

Why Did the Fighting Start?

Iraq's leader, Saddam Hussein, thought Kuwait had a lot of oil and he wanted it for his country. He believed Kuwait was actually part of Iraq. But Kuwait was its own country, and the rest of the world agreed! So, a big group of countries, led by the United States, got together to tell Iraq to leave Kuwait alone. When Iraq didn't listen, the fighting began.

Who Fought and How?

Lots of countries sent their brave soldiers, pilots, and sailors to help. The main group fighting against Iraq was called the Coalition. They used amazing machines like super-fast jets that flew higher than skyscrapers and tanks that were as big as school buses! They fought in the desert, which is a very hot and sandy place. The Coalition was very good at fighting and won the war.

What Happened After the Fighting?

After about six weeks, Iraq's army was defeated, and Kuwait was free again! The soldiers from all the different countries went home. It was a very important event because it showed that countries can work together to stop one country from taking over another. It also showed how powerful modern machines can be in a war.
