Welcome to the Island of Wonders!

Imagine a teardrop-shaped island in the big blue ocean, south of India. That’s Sri Lanka! It’s a place with sunny beaches, tall mountains, and jungles where amazing animals live. For thousands and thousands of years, people have called this beautiful island home. It’s a place full of history, where ancient stories are waiting to be discovered, like finding hidden treasure!

Long, Long Ago: The First Islanders!

People have lived in Sri Lanka for a super long time, even before the dinosaurs disappeared! The very first people arrived about 35,000 years ago. That’s way, way before your grandparents were born, or even their grandparents!

They lived in caves and hunted for food. Later, brave explorers sailed to the island and started building kingdoms, like building giant sandcastles that lasted for hundreds of years.

Kings, Queens, and Mighty Buddhas!

A very important story tells of Prince Vijaya, who sailed to Sri Lanka with 700 friends a super long time ago. He started the first big kingdom! Later, a special message arrived from India, bringing the peaceful teachings of Buddhism. This became a very important part of life for many people on the island. Imagine a king sharing a wonderful new game with everyone!

Battles and New Friends!

Sri Lanka is close to India, so people from India visited and sometimes even ruled parts of the island. There were brave fights to protect their homes. Over time, different groups of people came to live there, bringing new traditions and ways of life. It’s like when new kids join your class and share their cool ideas and games.
