When Romans Ruled the Roost!

Imagine Britain a super long time ago, when mighty Roman soldiers marched across the land! That's when the very first stories about Jesus, the heart of Christianity, arrived. It was like a new idea traveling on ships and roads. These stories were shared by people who believed in them, and slowly, Christianity started to grow in Britain, even when the Romans eventually left.

The Big Church Takes Over!

For many, many years, one big church called the Roman Catholic Church was the main way people in Britain followed Christianity. It was like the most popular club in town! This lasted for hundreds of years, from around the time of knights and castles. People built grand churches and followed the teachings of this church, making it a very important part of life.

A Royal Breakup!

Then, something big happened! The King of England decided he wanted to do things differently, and he broke away from the big Roman Catholic Church. This was called the English Reformation. He started his own church, the Church of England, which is still around today! This meant Britain had a new main church, and it was independent, like a kid growing up and making their own choices.

Lots of Different Churches!

After the big breakup, other new types of Christian churches started popping up, especially in places like Scotland. These were called Protestant churches. Some people also kept following the old Catholic ways, and others joined these new Protestant churches. It became a time with many different Christian groups, each with their own special ways of worshipping and sharing their beliefs.
