Key Facts
Meet the Giant Mountains!
The Himalaya are like a giant, bumpy wall stretching across Asia. They are so long, they go through seven countries: Bhutan, India, Nepal, China, and others! These mountains are super, super tall, with many peaks taller than any building you've ever seen. The highest one, Mount Everest, is like a giant reaching for the sky, way higher than a skyscraper!
How Did They Get So Big?
These mountains didn't just pop up! Millions of years ago, two giant pieces of Earth's crust, like huge puzzle pieces, crashed into each other. This big bump made the land buckle and fold, pushing it up and up to create the amazing Himalaya. It's like squishing playdough together and watching it pile up!
Home to Snow Leopards and Yaks!
Even though it's cold and snowy, lots of amazing animals call the Himalaya home! You might find fluffy yaks with long hair, perfect for staying warm. And if you're super lucky, you might spot a snow leopard, with its beautiful spotted fur, blending in with the rocks. These animals are tough and have special ways to live in the high, cold mountains.
Why They're Super Important!
The Himalaya are like a giant water tower for Asia! Melting snow from the tops of these mountains feeds big rivers that give water to millions of people. They also act like a giant shield, blocking cold winds from the north, making the lands to the south warmer. So, these snowy giants help keep lots of people and places happy and healthy!
