Meet the Island Rulers!

A long, long time ago, the Hawaiian Islands were their own special country called the Hawaiian Kingdom. It started in 1795 when a brave leader named Kamehameha I brought all the islands together under one rule. Think of it like a big family gathering where everyone decides to play together!

The kingdom was made up of all the islands you see in Hawaii today. It was ruled by two important families, like two royal teams, for many years.

When Ships Sailed In...

People from far away, like explorers and sailors, started visiting the Hawaiian Kingdom. They brought new things, but sadly, they also brought sicknesses that the Hawaiian people weren't used to. This made many people sick.

Later, some people from America and Europe came and wanted to change the way the kingdom was run. It was a bit like someone trying to change the rules of your favorite game without asking!

A Queen's Big Try!

The last ruler of the Hawaiian Kingdom was a queen named Liliʻuokalani. She wanted to make things fair for her people and tried to change a rule that wasn't fair. But some people who had come from other countries didn't like that. They worked with some people from America to take over the kingdom. It was a sad time when the kingdom ended in 1893.

Hawaii Today!

After the kingdom ended, Hawaii became part of the United States. Now, Hawaii is a beautiful state with amazing beaches and volcanoes! But many people remember the Hawaiian Kingdom and want to honor its history. The United States government even said sorry for how the kingdom was taken over. It's important to remember all the stories of Hawaii's past!
