Grenada: The Island of Spice!

Grenada is a super special island way out in the Caribbean Sea, like a jewel in a big blue necklace! It's part of a chain of islands called the Windward Islands. Think of it like this: it's south of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and not too far from South America.

It's made up of the main island of Grenada, plus two smaller friends called Carriacou and Petite Martinique, and a few tiny islands too. It's a small place, about the size of a big park, but packed with beauty!

Grenada is called the 'Island of Spice' because it grows SO many delicious spices! The most famous ones are nutmeg and mace. Nutmeg is that warm, yummy spice you might find in cookies or hot chocolate.

Mace is like its colorful cousin, growing around the outside of the nutmeg seed. Imagine fields and trees growing these wonderful smells and flavors! This makes Grenada a very special place for cooks all around the world.

A very, very long time ago, people called the Caribs lived on Grenada. Then, explorers from far away came, like Christopher Columbus! Later, people from France and Britain wanted to live there too. They brought many people from Africa to work on the farms. Grenada became part of Britain for a long time, but in 1974, it became its own independent country, free to make its own choices!

The capital city of Grenada is called St. George's, and it's a really pretty place with colorful houses built on hillsides overlooking the water. Lots of people live here, and they speak English. The island is full of green hills, beautiful beaches, and even waterfalls! It's a place where people work hard, enjoy their traditions, and share their love for their island home.
