Galápagos Islands

Far, far away from South America, in the super big Pacific Ocean, are the Galápagos Islands. They are made of volcanoes that popped up from under the sea! It's like a giant playground made of rocks and sand, with warm sunshine. These islands are right on the middle line of the Earth, called the equator. It's a special place where unique animals live because they are so far from other lands.

A long, long time ago, a man named Tomás de Berlanga accidentally found these islands. Before him, maybe some sailors or pirates stopped by, but it was hard to find fresh water. Later, people from Ecuador started to live there. They even gave the islands new Spanish names! It's a place with a cool history of explorers and settlers.

The Galápagos Islands are super famous because of their animals! They have giant tortoises that are as old as your grandpa's grandpa! There are also blue-footed boobies, which are birds with bright blue feet, and iguanas that swim in the ocean. These animals are special because they grew up on the islands and are found nowhere else on Earth. It's like a secret animal kingdom!

Because the Galápagos Islands have such special animals and plants, people work hard to protect them. Most of the islands are a national park, and the water around them is a marine reserve. This means it's a safe home for all the creatures. People visit to learn and see the amazing nature, but they have to be careful not to disturb the animals or their homes.
