Galactus
Key Facts
Who is This Planet-Gobbler?
Galactus is a super-duper big character from comic books! He's not like a regular bad guy who wants to steal toys. Instead, Galactus needs to eat planets to stay alive.
Think of him like a giant space vacuum cleaner, but instead of dust, he sucks up whole worlds! He's so big, he makes a skyscraper look tiny. He travels through space in a giant ship called the Taaia.
He's a cosmic entity, which means he's part of the universe itself!
Where Did Galactus Come From?
Long, long ago, before our universe even began, there was another universe. In that old universe, there was a brave explorer named Galan. His home planet was called Taa.
When his universe was ending, Galan didn't disappear. Instead, he became something new and powerful, merging with the universe's energy. This is how Galactus was born!
He's like a leftover from a previous universe, carrying its memories and its needs.
Why Does Galactus Eat Planets?
Galactus has to eat planets because it's the only way he can survive. It's not because he's mean or evil, but because he's incredibly hungry all the time. His hunger is like a super-powered need that he can't ignore.
He needs the energy from planets to keep himself going. Imagine if you had to eat a whole pizza every single second to not disappear โ that's kind of like Galactus's situation, but on a cosmic scale!
Galactus's Space Helpers!
Sometimes, Galactus doesn't go planet-hunting alone. He has helpers called Heralds! The most famous Herald is the Silver Surfer.
The Silver Surfer rides a special surfboard and flies ahead to find planets for Galactus to eat. He's like Galactus's scout. The Silver Surfer used to be a human, but Galactus gave him amazing powers.
Even though Galactus eats planets, his Heralds sometimes feel sad about it.
