Fredonyer Pass

Fredonyer Pass is a super high road in California, way up in the mountains. It's like a special bridge made of rock and dirt that goes over a big mountain range. This pass is like a doorway between two different sides of the land. To the west, you have the Feather River, and to the east, you find the Susan River and a big lake called Honey Lake.

Fredonyer Pass is 5,752 feet high! That's taller than 50 giraffes stacked on top of each other! Because it's so high, it gets a lot of snow in the winter. The snow can make the road tricky to drive on, like trying to walk on a slippery playground slide. It's a beautiful place with mountains all around.

People can drive cars on Fredonyer Pass using a road called State Route 36. This road is like a long ribbon that winds its way up and over the mountain. It's pretty amazing that people built a road so high up! It connects different towns and helps people travel from one side of the mountains to the other.

Fredonyer Pass is part of a big line of mountains called the Great Basin Divide. This is like an invisible wall that separates where water flows. Water on one side goes towards the Feather River, and water on the other side goes towards Honey Lake. In winter, this divide gets covered in a thick blanket of snow, making it a winter wonderland.
