France at the Olympics!

Did you know the modern Olympic Games were started by a Frenchman named Pierre de Coubertin? He loved sports and wanted to bring athletes from all over the world together. France has been part of almost every Olympic Games since they began, both in the summer and winter!

French athletes are amazing at winning medals! They've won over 800 medals in the Summer Olympics, which is more than the number of students in a very big school! They are especially good at sports like fencing, where they use swords, and cycling, where they ride bikes really fast.

In the Winter Olympics, they shine in sports like skiing down snowy mountains and biathlon, which is skiing and shooting.

France has some incredible Olympic heroes! Martin Fourcade won six gold medals in biathlon, which is more gold medals than you have fingers and thumbs! Teddy Riner is a judo champion who has won five gold medals. Other athletes, like Philippe Cattiau and Roger Ducret, won eight medals each in fencing, which is a lot of shiny prizes to carry home!

The Olympics are all about trying your best and showing good sportsmanship. France has shown this spirit for many, many years.
