Deccan Plateau

The Deccan Plateau is like a huge, flat-topped mountain that covers a big part of southern India. It's so large, it’s bigger than many countries! This rocky land stretches for miles and miles, from the north all the way down to the south. It’s bordered by tall mountains on the sides, like giant walls keeping it safe. Think of it as a massive, ancient shield protecting a special part of India.

A long, long time ago, even before dinosaurs, the Deccan Plateau was made by fiery volcanoes! Hot lava flowed out of the ground and cooled into layers of hard rock. It’s like stacking pancakes, but with melted rock! This happened so many times that it created a huge, thick blanket of rock that we see today. Some of the rocks underneath are even older, like the ancient bones of the Earth.

Even though it looks dry, the Deccan Plateau is super important because it’s where many big rivers start their journey! Rivers like the Godavari and Krishna begin here and flow all the way to the sea. They are like the highways of water for India.

The land gently slopes from west to east, guiding these rivers on their adventure towards the Bay of Bengal. It’s a major water station for the country!

For thousands of years, amazing kings and queens ruled over the Deccan Plateau. Many different kingdoms fought and built great empires here. Imagine knights and castles, but with Indian rulers like the Cholas and the Vijayanagara Empire! Later, it was even part of the British Empire before India became independent. This land has seen so much history, like a giant storybook!
