The Children's Eternal Rainforest

Initiated in 1987 by Eha Kern and Gunnar Nilsson, the project mobilized students globally. It serves as a case study for how grassroots fundraising can influence large-scale environmental policy.

The reserve provides a critical refuge for the Resplendent Quetzal, an indicator species whose presence signals a healthy, intact cloud forest ecosystem.

Located in the Tilarán Mountain Range of Costa Rica, this 22,500-hectare reserve is the largest private reserve in the nation, dedicated to the preservation of cloud forest ecosystems.

The reserve is critical for climate regulation and carbon sequestration. It provides a habitat for thousands of species, including many that are endemic to the region.

The Monteverde Conservation League oversees the acquisition and stewardship of the land. They utilize a model of sustainable management to ensure the forest remains an undisturbed sanctuary.
