King on the Run!

Charles II was born a prince, but when his dad, King Charles I, lost a big fight called the Civil War, he was sadly put to death. Charles II had to run away and hide for many years! He was like a secret agent, traveling to different countries like France and the Netherlands.

He missed his home country a lot. He was king of Scotland for a bit, but England had a different kind of government without a king for a while.

The Big Comeback Party!

After nine long years away, the people of England decided they wanted a king again! On his 30th birthday, Charles II sailed back home and everyone was SO happy to see him. London was filled with cheering crowds. It was like a giant birthday party and a welcome home celebration all rolled into one. He was finally king of England, Scotland, and Ireland, just like his dad used to be.

A King Who Loved Fun!

King Charles II was known for being friendly and easy to talk to. People could even walk right up to him! He loved parties, music, and science. His court was famous for being very lively and fun, but also a bit wild. He had many children, but none with his wife, Queen Catherine. He was a king who loved to enjoy life and have a good time with his friends.

Making New Rules

When Charles II became king, he had to make important decisions. He agreed to new laws that made sure the Church of England was strong. He also tried to let people have different religions, but sometimes the people in charge of making laws didn't agree with him. He even made a secret deal with the King of France! He ruled for many years until he passed away in 1685.
