Who Was Fighting and Why?

Imagine your school playground. What if two groups of kids started arguing about who makes the rules? That's a bit like the English Civil War!

On one side were the King's friends, called Royalists. They believed the King should have all the power. On the other side were the Parliament's friends, called Parliamentarians.

They thought Parliament, which is like a big meeting of important people, should have a say too. They were fighting over who was in charge of England!

King vs. Parliament: A Big Squabble!

The King, Charles I, thought he was chosen by God to rule. He wanted to do whatever he pleased, like taking people's money without asking. But Parliament said, 'Hey, that's not fair!' They wanted to make sure the King followed rules, just like you have rules at home or school.

This big disagreement got so heated that people started picking sides and getting ready for a fight. It was like a giant, serious argument that turned into a war.

The Battles and the Big Change!

There were lots of battles, like big games of tag but with real soldiers! The Parliamentarians, led by a brave man named Oliver Cromwell, were very good fighters. They won many of the battles. The biggest change happened when they decided the King couldn't be the boss anymore. They even put King Charles I on trial and he was executed. This was a HUGE deal because kings had always been in charge!

What Happened Next?

After the King was gone, England didn't have a king for a while. It was called a Commonwealth, and Oliver Cromwell became the leader. It was a very different way of running the country.

But people missed having a king, so eventually, they brought a new king back! The English Civil War showed everyone that the King couldn't just do whatever he wanted. It helped make sure that leaders had to listen to the people.
