Key Facts
Where is This Wild Place?
Way up north in Australia, there's a huge piece of land that sticks out into the ocean like a giant finger. This is the Cape York Peninsula! It's like a super-duper big nature park, bigger than lots of playgrounds put together.
It's mostly flat and covered in trees and grass, where lots of amazing animals live. The very tip-top point is called Cape York, and it's the furthest north you can go in Australia!
A Home for Thousands of Years!
Long, long ago, even before your grandparents were born, Aboriginal Australian people were living here. They knew all the secret paths and where to find yummy food. They have been here for more than 10,000 years! That's older than any school you can imagine. Later, explorers in big boats came to visit, and one of the first was a sailor from a place called Holland.
Nature's Amazing Playground
This place is like a treasure chest of nature! It has tall, green rainforests where it's always a bit damp and shady, and also wide-open grassy areas called savannahs. These places are super important for the whole world because they are still very wild and not built on. Lots of unique plants and animals call this home, many of which you can't find anywhere else on Earth!
What's Happening There Today?
Even though it's wild, some people use parts of the land for raising cows. But we need to be careful! Sometimes, things like too many cows or new plants that don't belong can make it tricky for the native animals and plants. Scientists and people who live there are working hard to protect this special place so it stays healthy for everyone to enjoy.
