When Bosnia decided to become its own country, not everyone agreed. This disagreement was like a spark that started a big, sad fire.

The Big Fight Begins!

From 1992 to 1995, a war happened in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was a very difficult time. Different groups of people fought against each other. Cities were damaged, and many people had to leave their homes. It was a time when neighbors became enemies, and life became very scary for everyone.

Why It Was So Sad

During this war, terrible things happened. People were hurt, and sadly, many lost their lives. Some groups tried to force others out of their homes, which is called ethnic cleansing. There was also a very sad event in a town called Srebrenica where many boys and men were killed. This was one of the worst things that happened in Europe for a long time.

Making Peace and Moving On

After years of fighting, leaders from different countries helped the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina make peace. They signed an agreement called the Dayton Accords. This agreement helped stop the fighting and start rebuilding. It was a very important step to help everyone live together again, even though it took a long time.
