Where is This Giant Land?

The Belgian Congo was a super big place in the middle of Africa, like a giant green heart! It was so large, it's hard to imagine. It had amazing rivers, like the mighty Congo River, which is one of the longest in the world. The weather was usually warm and rainy, perfect for growing lots of plants and trees. This land was full of incredible nature and wild animals.

A Story of Kings and Countries

A long, long time ago, a king from Belgium wanted to make this land his own. At first, the Belgian government said no, so the king decided to rule it himself! Later, Belgium took over and called it the Belgian Congo. For many years, people from Belgium made the rules. It was like a big change for the people who already lived there, and they had their own ways of life.

What Did People Do?

People in the Belgian Congo worked hard! Some worked for companies that dug up valuable things from the ground, like minerals. Others worked on farms growing food. The Belgian rulers wanted the land to be very productive, so they organized how people worked. It was a busy place with lots of activity, and many people moved to towns to find jobs.

Learning and Growing

During the time it was a colony, the Belgian Congo started to change a lot. More towns and cities were built, and more people learned to read and write. The rulers wanted to make it a 'model colony,' which meant they tried to build things and teach people. Some African people became very educated and started to have new ideas about their country.
