Where Are These Islands?

Imagine a bunch of islands floating in the sea, off the coast of a super big island called Sumatra in Indonesia. That's Bangka Belitung! It has two main islands, Bangka and Belitung, and lots of tiny ones in between. They are like jewels scattered in the water, surrounded by different seas. The capital city, Pangkalpinang, is on Bangka Island. It's a beautiful place where the land meets the sea!

Island Adventures and Tall Peaks!

These islands are covered in green rainforests, but sadly, some are disappearing. The highest spot is Mount Maras, which is 699 meters tall. That's like stacking 200 school buses on top of each other! Rivers like the Sebuku River flow through the land, giving life to plants and animals. The weather is warm and tropical all year round, perfect for exploring.

A Long, Long Time Ago...

People have lived on these islands for a very, very long time! They were part of big kingdoms like Sriwijaya and Majapahit. Later, people from other countries like the Dutch, British, and Japanese came to visit and sometimes stayed. Finally, Bangka Belitung became its own special province in Indonesia in the year 2000. It has a rich history of people coming and going.

Who Lives Here and What Do They Do?

Lots of different people call Bangka Belitung home! You'll find Malays, Chinese, and Javanese people, each with their own traditions. They speak Indonesian, but also local languages like Malay and Hakka. Many people work by mining for shiny tin, which is used to make many things we use every day. They also fish and grow crops. It's a busy and diverse place!
