Sumatra

Sumatra is a super-duper big island in Indonesia, like a giant green dragon sleeping in the ocean! It's so big that it's the sixth-largest island in the whole world. It has tall, rumbling mountains with volcanoes that puff smoke, and wide, flat areas with wiggly rivers and swampy forests.

The middle of the island is right on the equator, so it’s always warm and a little bit wet, perfect for growing lush green trees.

Sumatra is like a treasure chest overflowing with incredible animals! You can find tigers with stripes, elephants with big ears, rhinos with horns, and orangutans with long, fuzzy arms. These animals live in the amazing rainforests. But sadly, a lot of the forests have disappeared, making it hard for these special creatures to find homes. It’s like if your playground suddenly got much smaller!

This island has been around for a very, very long time. People have lived there for ages, building homes and exploring the land. Sumatra is also special because it’s part of Indonesia, a country made up of thousands of islands.
