Meet the Ashmolean: A Super Museum!

The Ashmolean Museum is like a super-duper library for cool objects! It’s in a city called Oxford in England. It was the very first museum in Britain that anyone could visit for free. Think of it as a giant box of wonders that people have collected for hundreds of years. It’s a place where you can see things from ancient times all the way up to more recent history.

A Very Old Treasure Box!

This museum started a super long time ago, even before your grandparents were born! It began because a man named Elias Ashmole wanted to share his amazing collection of interesting things with everyone. He gave his special treasures to a famous school called the University of Oxford. The first building for the museum was built way back between 1678 and 1683. That's older than many castles!

Why It's Like a Time Machine!

The Ashmolean is special because it helps us learn about the past. It has things from ancient Egypt, like mummies and hieroglyphs, and art from different countries. It’s like a time machine that lets you travel back and see how people lived, what they made, and what they thought was beautiful. It helps us understand the world and how it has changed over many, many years.

What Cool Stuff Can You See?

Inside the Ashmolean, you can find all sorts of amazing things. There are old coins, beautiful jewelry, ancient pottery, and even things from faraway lands. They have special rooms that show you all about Egypt and another place called Nubia. They also have art from the 19th century, which is like looking at pictures from when your great-great-great-grandparents were kids!
