Who Was President Sadat?
Anwar Sadat was a very important leader in Egypt, like a president! He was born a long, long time ago, in 1918. He became president in 1970 and led Egypt for 11 exciting years. He was a brave man who wanted to make his country strong and peaceful. He even got a special award called the Nobel Peace Prize for his hard work!
A Big Change for Egypt!
When Sadat became president, Egypt was going through big changes. He decided to try new ideas for his country's economy, which is how a country makes and shares things. He also made it possible for different groups of people to have their own ideas and share them. It was like opening up a window to let in fresh air and new thoughts for everyone in Egypt.
Winning Back Land and Making Peace
One of the most amazing things Sadat did was lead Egypt in a war to get back a special piece of land called the Sinai Peninsula. Israel had taken it, but Sadat fought to get it back for Egypt. After the war, he did something even more surprising: he made peace with Israel! This was a huge deal and helped many people.
A Hero's Sad Ending
Because Sadat worked so hard to bring peace, many people in Egypt thought he was a hero. However, not everyone agreed with his decisions, especially about making peace with Israel. Sadly, some people were very angry. In 1981, during a big parade, some people attacked him and he was hurt very badly. It was a very sad day for Egypt.
