António Raposo Tavares

António Raposo Tavares was a brave Portuguese explorer who lived a long, long time ago, from 1598 to 1658. He was like a superhero of his time, exploring a HUGE part of South America. He was so good at exploring that he claimed lots of new land for Portugal, making their country bigger!

He didn't just explore a little bit; he went on the biggest adventure ever seen in the Americas. Think of it like a super-long road trip, but way more exciting and dangerous!

He started in a place called São Paulo and went towards big rivers, even climbing up parts of the Andes Mountains, which are super tall. This journey was over 10,000 kilometers long! That's like driving across the United States almost four times! He connected two giant river systems and the tall mountains all in one trip.
