Where is Amhara?
Imagine a big, beautiful country called Ethiopia in Africa. Amhara is a special part of it, right in the north! It's like a giant puzzle piece in the country's map.
To the west, it touches another country called Sudan. To the north, it meets Tigray, and to the east, it's neighbors with Afar. It also has friends called Gambela and Gurage to the south and southwest.
It's a busy place with lots of neighbors!
Giant Lakes and Tall Mountains!
Amhara is home to Ethiopia's biggest lake, Lake Tana. It's so big, it's like a giant playground for water! This lake is super important because it's where the Blue Nile River begins its long journey.
Amhara also has the Semien Mountains, where you can find Ras Dashan. This mountain is the highest point in all of Ethiopia, much taller than any building you've ever seen, and even taller than a herd of giraffes stacked up!
People and Their Homes
Lots of different people call Amhara home, like the Amhara, Awi, Argobba, and Qemant people. They have lived here for a very, very long time. Their capital city, where the leaders meet, is called Bahir Dar. It's a lively city with lots of people and things to do. The people here have their own special languages and traditions that make Amhara unique and wonderful.
What Do People Do?
In Amhara, many people work with the land, growing food like grains and other important crops. They also raise animals. The big lake, Lake Tana, is great for fishing. There are also busy towns and cities where people have shops and businesses. The Grand Renaissance Dam is a huge project that helps provide power, showing how people in Amhara are building for the future.
