Meet the Sparkly Chamber!

The Amber Room was like a treasure chest made into a whole room! It was covered in beautiful amber panels, which are like fossilized tree sap that can be super shiny. These panels were decorated with gold leaf, which is super thin gold, and mirrors that made everything sparkle even more.

It was so amazing that some people called it the 'Eighth Wonder of the World'! It was first built in the 1700s and was meant to be a dazzling display.

A Royal Gift and a Long Journey

This amazing room started its life in Prussia, which is now part of Germany. It was designed by clever artists and craftsmen. Later, the King of Prussia gave it as a special gift to the Tsar of Russia, Peter the Great.

Imagine getting a whole room as a present! It was carefully taken apart and sent to Russia, where it was put together in a palace called the Catherine Palace. It became even bigger and more beautiful there!

Where Did the Sparkle Go?

Sadly, during a big war called World War II, the Amber Room disappeared. Soldiers took it from Russia to Germany. They packed it up, but then it vanished! Nobody knows for sure what happened to it. It's like a giant, sparkly puzzle that's missing its pieces. People have searched everywhere, but the original room has never been found. It remains one of history's biggest mysteries!

A New Sparkle for Today!

Even though the original Amber Room is lost, people wanted to see its beauty again. So, starting in 1979, a team of skilled workers in Russia began to rebuild it. They used old pictures and descriptions to make it look just like it did before.

It took many years and lots of hard work, but in 2003, the new Amber Room was finally finished and put back in the Catherine Palace. Now, visitors can see this amazing recreation!
