Tsar Alexis had a very busy reign! He made Russia grow bigger by winning wars against other countries like Poland and Sweden. He even got new lands for Russia!
But not everything was easy. Sometimes, people in Russia were unhappy. There was a big 'Salt Riot' where people got angry about taxes on salt.
There was also a rebellion led by a man named Stenka Razin. These were like huge arguments happening all over the country while Alexis was in charge.
Making Big Decisions
Alexis was known for making important decisions. He signed a big law book called the Sobornoye Ulozheniye in 1649. This law helped him and other leaders have more power.
He also cared a lot about religion. He agreed with a religious leader named Patriarch Nikon about how church services should be done. This caused some people to be upset because the changes were new and different.
Alexis had to decide which side to support, and he chose Nikon's side.
A Giant Country
When Tsar Alexis died in 1676, Russia was HUGE! It was almost as big as the entire continent of North America. Imagine a country so big it would take you weeks to travel across it! He was a Tsar who helped shape Russia into the massive land it is today. His decisions about laws, religion, and wars all played a part in making Russia the country it became.
