Alaric I

Imagine a super-important chief named Alaric! He was the very first king of a group of people called the Visigoths. That means he was in charge of them for a long, long time, from when he was about as old as a grown-up to when he was a bit older.

He was a brave warrior who knew how to lead his people through tough times and exciting adventures. He was born a very, very long time ago, in the year 370, and lived until 411. That's a whole lot of years!

Alaric and his Visigoth friends wanted a place to call home. They traveled a lot and eventually ended up near the huge and powerful Roman Empire. Alaric was a smart leader, and he even fought alongside the Romans for a while!

But sometimes, he didn't feel like they were treating him and his people fairly. So, he decided to lead his people on a different path, all the way into Italy, the land where Rome was. It was a super long journey!

One of the most famous things Alaric did was lead his warriors into the amazing city of Rome in the year 410. It was a big deal because Rome was like the capital of the whole world back then! It was a bit like if a whole school bus full of kids suddenly showed up at your playground and took over.
