Meet the Man Who Ruled Egypt!

Ahmad ibn Tulun was a very important person who lived a long, long time ago, around the year 835. He was like a governor sent to Egypt, but he was so clever that he decided to rule it his own way! He was originally a soldier, but he became the boss of Egypt and even Syria.

He was so good at his job that he built a brand new capital city, which is like building a whole new playground just for yourself!

From Soldier to Super Ruler!

Ahmad started as a soldier, but he was sent to Egypt to be in charge. He quickly realized he could be even more powerful! He gathered his own army, made of people who lived in Egypt and were loyal just to him. He also made sure the money from taxes was used wisely, fixing things like water systems so farmers could grow more food. This made him very rich and strong.

Building a City of His Own!

To show everyone he was the new boss, Ahmad built a magnificent new city called al-Qata'i. It was like building a giant castle! This city was north of the old one, Fustat. It was a symbol of his power and independence. He wanted a place that was completely his, where he could make all the rules and show off his new kingdom.

A Leader Who Changed Everything!

Ahmad ibn Tulun was special because he was the first governor to become a truly independent ruler and then pass his power to his son. This meant Egypt became a strong, separate place again after many years. His rule helped Egypt become a major power, influencing lands all the way to Syria and beyond. He was a game-changer!
