Who Gets to Be the Boss?

In Germany, grown-ups vote for people who will make important decisions for their country. This is called an election! In 2021, they picked new leaders for the Bundestag, which is like their big meeting room for making rules.

It was a big deal because the leader everyone knew, Angela Merkel, decided not to run again. This was the first time in a long, long time that a leader stepped down and didn't try to stay in charge!

Team Colors and Winning!

Different groups, called parties, have their own colors and ideas. The Social Democrats (SPD) wore red and did super well, getting more votes than they had in years! The CDU/CSU, who had been in charge for a long time, didn't get as many votes as before.

It was like their team didn't score as many points. But the Greens and the FDP parties did better, and everyone wondered who would team up to lead the country next.

The 'Traffic Light' Surprise!

After the votes were counted, it was time for the parties to talk and decide who would work together. It's like picking teams for a big project at school! The SPD, the FDP (who wear yellow), and the Greens (who wear green) decided to form a team.

They called it a 'traffic light coalition' because their party colors are like a traffic light: red, yellow, and green! This new team then picked Olaf Scholz to be the new leader.

Oops! Sometimes They Have to Vote Again!

Sometimes, things don't go perfectly. In one big city called Berlin, there were some mix-ups during the election. Because of these problems, people in Berlin had to vote again for their leaders! This meant that the number of people in the Bundestag changed a little bit, and some seats moved around. It shows how important it is for elections to be fair and right for everyone.
