Traffic Light

Imagine a tall pole with three bright eyes watching over the street. That's a traffic light! It has a red light to say STOP, a yellow light to say GET READY, and a green light to say GO. These lights help cars and people know when it's safe to cross the road or drive through an intersection. They are like the traffic police, but made of lights!

Long, long ago, before traffic lights, police officers stood in the middle of busy streets to wave cars through. It was a bit chaotic! In 1868, the very first traffic light was invented in London. It looked like a gas-powered railway signal and had red and green lights. It was a big step towards making roads safer for everyone.

Traffic lights are like superheroes for our roads! They help prevent crashes by making sure cars don't all try to go at the same time. They also help people walking or biking know when it's safe to cross. Without them, roads would be much more confusing and dangerous, like a giant game of bumper cars!

Traffic lights use colors to send messages. Red means stop, just like when you stop playing a game. Yellow means slow down and get ready to stop, like when your teacher says "5 minutes left!" Green means it's safe to go, like when it's your turn on the playground slide. These simple colors keep everything moving smoothly and safely.
