The Mighty Yukon River!

The Yukon River is like a super-long watery highway! It starts way up high in Canada, in a place called the Yukon Territory. Then, it zooms all the way across Alaska in the United States, finally emptying into the chilly Bering Sea. It's so big, it's one of the longest rivers in North America, stretching longer than 2000 school buses parked end-to-end!

Lots of animals call the Yukon River home. You might see speedy salmon leaping upstream to lay their eggs. Big, furry moose love to munch on plants near the riverbanks. And if you're super lucky, you might even spot a majestic bald eagle soaring overhead, looking for a tasty fish dinner. It's a busy place for wildlife!

People have used the Yukon River for a very, very long time. Indigenous peoples have lived along its banks for thousands of years, fishing and traveling. Later, brave explorers and gold miners used it to travel to faraway places, hoping to find shiny gold. Today, people still travel on the river by boat, enjoying its wild beauty.

The Yukon River flows through some very cold places! In the winter, parts of the river can freeze over, looking like a giant ice slide. But when spring comes, the ice melts, and the river flows strong again. This freezing and thawing is super important for the plants and animals that live there.
